The 49ers (7-0) took another step closer to matching their best start in 29 years after beating the Panthers 51-13 on Sunday. Tevin Coleman rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns and added a fourth score receiving as San Francisco held an opponent under 250 yards for the fifth straight game.
Rookie Nick Bosa recorded a season-high three sacks, giving him seven. The 49ers also forced three turnovers. San Francisco had 16 takeaways, more than double its NFL-worst total of seven in 2018, and accumulated 69 points off those miscues.
Jimmy Garoppolo had an effective game, completing 18 of 22 passes for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns as he improved to 15-2 lifetime as a starter. Garoppolo's effectiveness and ability to stay healthy has given the 49ers an opportunity to possibly move third-string signal-caller C.J. Beathard before Tuesday's trade deadline.
Arizona's bid for its first four-game winning streak in four seasons was thwarted with a 31–9 defeat at New Orleans on Sunday. Playing without injured running back David Johnson, the Cardinals (3-4-1) struggled to move the ball all game and finished with 40 rushing yards and 237 overall.
No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray had a pedestrian 220 yards passing without a touchdown or interception. Arizona's defense had few answers for Drew Brees, who shredded the Cardinals for 373 yards and three touchdowns.
The Cardinals yielded a season-worst 510 yards and is giving up 407.1 per game. The team is struggling mightily against the pass, getting just two interceptions while opposing quarterbacks have thrown for 2,372 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Johnson is also not expected to play in this game as he continues to recover from an ankle injury. Chase Edmonds is expected to get the bulk of the carries for the Cardinals but was held to eight yards on seven carries against New Orleans.
Arizona recorded two of their three wins last season at the expense of the 49ers, with then-No. 1 overall pick Josh Rosen getting the better of Beathard in both games.

What to Know
San Francisco is 0-6 against Arizona since October of 2016, but they'll have a chance to close the gap on Thursday. San Francisco and Arizona will face off in an NFC West battle at 8:20 p.m. ET at State Farm Stadium. The 49ers are currently enjoying a perfect season and are looking to extend their dominance.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for San Francisco. They put a hurting on Carolina to the tune of 51-13. RB Tevin Coleman had a stellar game for San Francisco as he rushed for 105 yards and three TDs on 11 carries. Coleman didn't help his team much against Washington two weeks ago, so this was a nice turnaround for him. Coleman scored four touchdowns overall-- his season high.
San Francisco's defense was a presence as well, and it made life painful for the quarterback and embarrassed Carolina's offensive line for a total of seven sacks for a loss of 19 yards. Leading the way was DE Nick Bosa and his three sacks.
Meanwhile, the oddsmakers predicted a rough contest for Arizona last week, and boy were they were right. They found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 31-9 punch to the gut against New Orleans. RB Chase Edmonds had a rough afternoon: he rushed for eight yards on seven carries.
San Francisco's win lifted them to 7-0 while Arizona's loss dropped them down to 3-4-1. A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Cardinals are stumbling into the game with the most passing touchdowns allowed in the league, having given up 20 on the season. To make matters even worse for the Cardinals, the 49ers enter the matchup with only 224.4 yards allowed per game on average, good for best in the NFL. So the cards are definitely stacked in San Francisco's favor.
